Net Atlantic Awards Scholarships to Local Graduates

Local high school graduates were awarded scholarships for their commendable academic records and commitment to their communities.

SALEM, MA. – August 14, 2012 –Salem, Massachusetts: Last week, Salem-based email marketing company Net Atlantic announced the recipients of their annual scholarship awards. With parents in attendance, Bishop Fenwick graduate Katherine Melanson and Danvers High School graduate Erica Fleming received $2,000 scholarships to be used toward four year programs of study. These awards are in recognition for their commendable academic performance, community leadership, and written essay submissions.

Net Atlantic’s Scholarship Committee, chaired by Jack Crozier, collected over 30 applications and essays from high school students representing 10 communities around the North Shore. “We had a record response this year and an extremely competitive field of candidates. We were very pleased to award the two scholarships to Erica and Katherine. They are both outstanding in every facet of academics, leadership and community service,” said Crozier.

“We continue to be thoroughly impressed by the caliber of candidates we evaluate every year for the scholarships,” added Net Atlantic CEO Andrew Lutts. “It’s encouraging to see so much hard work put forth by today’s college-bound seniors in terms of their academic effort, sports participation, involvement in school clubs, and especially volunteer and community work.” Melanson will attend Stonehill College in Easton, MA, where she will major in Business Administration. In addition to high scholastic achievement, Melanson earned a spot on several varsity teams, worked part time, served on National Honor Society during her Sophomore, Junior and Senior years, was Yearbook Editor, and a Peer Mentor. She was extensively involved with extracurricular activities and demonstrating significant volunteerism.

Fleming will attend Holy Cross in Worcester, MA where she will major in Math and Science. Academically, Fleming has achieved high honors each semester of high school, being a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, as well as the World Language National Honor Society. She was active in youth-oriented community service, fundraised for a Northeast ARC, mentored young school children, worked part-time and also exhibited significant volunteerism.

Net Atlantic scholarship opportunities are announced each spring to both public and private schools on the North Shore. Applicant criteria include academic excellence (grades above a 3.0 GPA), demonstrated leadership qualities, participation in extracurricular activities, strong work ethic, and good citizenship within the school and the community.
